Beach Lifeguard on Duty

National VOCATIONAL beach lifeguard course

The (NVBLQ) is the UK & Ireland’s most accepted

qualification for employment as a

Beach Lifeguard.

The NVBLQ qualification comprises the following

elements :

Lifeguard Theory ; Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation ; First Aid ;

A.E.D. (Automated External Defibrillator) included in Course as Optional Extra ;

Rescue of a suspected Spinal Injury Casualty with/and without a Spinal Injury Board ;

Open Water Rescues :

These Rescues are carried out using the following :

1. a Rescue Tube and

2. an R.N.L.I. Approved Rescue Board.

Beach Lifeguarding demands a range of different skills to allow for the varying conditions that a lifeguard may encounter.

The main duties of a Beach Lifeguard are :

· to Supervise activities on the beach ;

· to Observe Bathers ;

· to identify Hazards ;

· to endeavour to Prevent Accidents ;

· to provide Water-Safety advice ;

· to provide a Point of Contact for Bathers ;

· to provide basic First Aid ;

· to perform open water rescues of casualties’ when necessary.
